Cats

Cats are a long time passion of mine, in fact I can’t ever remember not having a cat in my life. When it came to writing my books I just knew that I’d have to include a cat somewhere, so my ‘heroine’ owns two of them. Well, they do say write what you know and I like to think I know cats pretty well. I currently own two. Both of them are from the Cats Protection. Tigger, a ginger and white tabby, was three years old when we got him. We wanted to change his name, but couldn’t come up with anything else that suited him so Tigger he remained, though he actually gets called all kinds of nicknames. I don’t believe that he had a rough past, and I still don’t know why his previous owners surrendered him, I’m just glad that they did because he is the most gorgeous boy, so gentle and loving.

Cordelia, a spirited calico (named after Cordelia Chase in Buffy), arrived a year later. Unlike Tigs I believe she had a more difficult start in life and it showed. She liked to get on our knees, but we were a little scared to stroke her as she had a tendency to bite and scratch. After about nine months she started to settle down and has continued to do so. Now, she still has a feisty side, but it’s very rare that we see it. It’s only with the benefit of hindsight that we realise how stressed she was. She is now so happy and loves being stroked. She sleeps by my side every night.

It scares me how much I love them and they are great company for me.
